LIA at GuardTools – learning, growing and shipping code

We believe in LIA, and here is why!

We find it interesting and useful to see how students are taught to develop today. It gives us insight into current learning approaches and helps us reflect on our own practices. Likewise, it feels rewarding to help students gain references from the “real world” – we have all been there at some point in life – and invite them to see what working life looks like and offer the students experiences they can carry forward.

At GuardTools, we believe a LIA (practical internship) should be valuable for both the student and the company. We aim to select students whose skills and interests align with our current projects, so that both the student and our team can make the most of the time together. This way, students gain useful insights and hands-on experience, while we can effectively involve them in meaningful work.

What students can expect:

  • Real projects where your work can make a difference.
  • Mentorship and guidance from team members.
  • A supportive and engaging work environment where curiosity and initiative are encouraged.
  • Insight into industry practices and opportunities to build useful professional references.

Robert on LIA at GuardTools: Coding, Cakes and Enduro

Robert, studying to be a Fullstack Developer at Företagsuniversitetet, spent 11 weeks with us and contributed in many ways both in development but also as an awesome human being. Beyond working on frontend projects, Robert also shared his limericks on Fridays (the one about GuardTools was memorable) and even introduced us to the sport of enduro.

Three Quick Questions about LIA at GuardTools:

  • What would be your main take away from doing your LIA with us?

I was surprised by how quickly I was trusted to work with the real codebase from day one, and by how easygoing and open-hearted everyone is.

  • What has been the most fun part of your LIA with us?

That I feel like a true team member: respected, included, and able to contribute to real work tasks.

  • What tip would you give to future LIA students?

Be humble, but find and take your place. Trust your own knowledge, and don’t let imposter syndrome hold you back.
